Three Nefarious Schemes is a short collection of pieces for solo clarinet with both contemporary harmony and a sense of humor. Although the style is reminiscent of Stravinsky in sections, there is a rhythmic freedom allowed to the player in the outer movements, indicated by wedge beams (where branching out from one beam to two indicates acceleration, for example). The range extends from the very bottom of the instrument to high B, a tenth above the staff. Also, the middle movement could be used as an encore piece.
