"Mark Fish has done a wonderful thing. He has given 'Ferdinand the Bull' a whole new exciting, intimate and satisfying life by giving it music. We have a new work to stand with 'Tubby the Tuba' and 'Peter and the Wolf'; a brand new composition to entertain and absorb the young listener with a story that has been a favorite over several generations. It is inventive, tuneful and respectful of the story and its' setting while enhancing the clarity and humor of the tale. Thank you Mark. This work is always a pleasure to perform."
- David Ogden Stiers, actor

Ferdinand the Bull is a 20-minute musical setting of the children's classic, "The Story of Ferdinand," in which a little bull who "likes to sit just quietly and smell the flowers" gets stung by a bee one day while some men are looking for a ferocious bull to take to fight in the bull fights in Madrid. Little do those men know what will happen once Ferdinand gets to the middle of the ring. . . .

This work is currently not available for sale.

There are now four different arrangements of the work:

*narrator, cello, and piano
*woodwind quintet
*narrator, cello, and chamber orchestra
*narrator, bassoon, and chamber orchestra

The orchestrated versions include double winds, 2 trumpets, 2 horns, three percussionists, and strings.

In concert, the piece has now been narrated by professional actors including David Ogden Stiers, Lauren Lane, and Emmy Award-winner Roscoe Lee Browne.
